I live, work, and play in Los Angeles-ish. All references to local bands or venues refer to Southern California.
I am an amateur. I am not a musician. I am not an industry insider, journalist, crew member, promoter, or employee of any organization related to the music business. I’m a recruiter for a Fortune 500 retailer. We may not share tastes, but I am more like you than any reviewer writing for a major publication (except I’m probably older). I’m fed up with music critics and the bands they promote.
The purpose of this blog is to organize my musical experience: the shows, albums, and artists that strike me as possessing something that the rest of the music amateurs out there need to share. I focus on Southern California shows and bands from the area.
Free publicity! If you’re an alt-ish band and would like to be featured on this site, send me an email (aeirlys (at) gmail (dot) com) telling me who you are and a link to your music. I won’t promise a write-up, but I always love it when I get tips. It saves me doing the research myself. Likewise, if I’ve neglected your favoritest band ever, feel free to write and tell me all about them. Bonus points for Southern California bands or bands on eMusic. To get a feel for the kind of bands I tend to love, check out the listing on the index. Like the title says, I’m a music junkie, so don’t be shy. I’m sure I’ll love whatever you send in.
Shameless self-promotion:
I don’t really do the Web 2.0 social networking thing – no Facebook, no Myspace. The only real network I’m on is Last.FM where you can check out the stuff I’m listening to that doesn’t make it to this page and be my internet friend.
You can find me on eMusic (user name Eidolon) where you can track my downloads and the occasional review that doesn’t get posted here.
I sometimes haunt the BOL sites, mostly Buzz Town Center. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, don’t worry about it.
You can stalk me on Twitter, or you can read the sidebar.
